I've been using it for a while, and never had any issues with it.

I've never had a problem with it removing anything it shouldn't. Just a note, I leave it on defaults and don't usually check anything in the Advanced part of the checklist (the part that's greyed out until you check it). Like shadowpr said, most of what it deletes are things like temporary files, cookies, memory dumps, and dead registry links. So far I haven't had any reason to deem it "unsafe" to use.

Is it safe to use it to clean the registry also? I always use it, just wondering.

I use it and haven't had any problems. If you're concerned, just make a registry backup before you tell it to delete entries.

Don't use it as a malware/spyware remover. This is probably where things go wrong for people whom have had things go wrong.

This is only a cleanup utility to mainly get rid of useless reg entires, temp files, cookies, app data, etc.

My pile is taking longer and longer to boot, it has started freezing more often over the last 4 months.
I've never used CClean or any type of cleaner in well over 7 years and the one time I did ended up reinstalling the OS, so I'm a bit apprehensive.
Do I just let it run and do whatever or is there something I should know and or do to protect the OS. I never did a reg back up, don't know how to.

Any help will be greatly appreciated
G.

Ccleaner is an amazing program. it is VERY safe. i reccomend deleting what it says. also tweak the settings to run sevral passes to get EVERYTHING. after youve anazlyzed, simply delete the stuff. Also when your done, go to the issues tab, and scan for issues, it usually finds a good bit of them after the clean which is perfectly normal and fine and the issues wont really hurt you but let Ccleaner auto fix them, it will also give you the option to save it on your registry, do that too.

I usually have everything checked for IE (I don't use it, so for those that do, you might want to leave a few of those entries unchecked), nothing for windows explorer, everything under system, and nothing under advanced (but hotfix uninstallers for my personal rigs)

hotfix uninstallers! If you remove this won't it make uninstalling a HOTFIX impossible?

Large images make the site slow for users on dial up.

Ah I tick everyting and delete everything it finds. I also use the registry cleaner (taking backups) and the startup cleaner.

I love the program for general clean ups

CC Cleaner is one of the "must have" software and I never had a problem with it. There's also another software working in tandem to CC Cleaner to speed up some of the job and it's called Click&Clean.

CCleaner is safe, but it's like any software package: If you're not sure what you're deleting, do some research and verify whether it's important.

Best thing I've found is the removal of the tons of garbage that Windows remembers that only clutter the drive and bog programs.

I have used CCleaner for quite a long time and have never run into any problems because of it. It's the opposite, I've AVOIDED problems because of it

Yes.

However, how often do you uninstall hotfixes/service packs?

Either way, it's not something you have to do. I choose to do it on my personal rigs only, as they tend to accumulate a decent amount of storage space.
