I am having a strange problem with WinDVD trying to install every couple of minutes even though it is already installed. After running XP repair Pro to "clean" things up I thought that my machine may run smoother. Now it has just turned annoying.
Thanks. |

Is this recent behavior for a program that ran well or did you just buy the download ?
In either case burn the downloaded program file to disk and make sure you get your program registration key/serial number so that it's clear you did buy it. Download this : http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=290301 Now alert what ever Corel group supports WinDVD, there's always the possibility that they'll email you a link to a new download that they've double checked for you. In either case you want them in the loop so you don't get charged twice and it's always possible that they've got a quick fix ( If they do please tell us about it. ) . You're likely going to have to uninstall and reinstall and you'll want to do it thoroughly but wait till you hear back from support.

Thank you for the reply.
I have uninstalled WinDVD 8 and the machine is still doing the same thing. I am in the process of contacting Corel. |

Corel product support was less then helpful. Is there a open-source uninstaller that can take care of this issue?

Yes, it is trying to install a program that I have deleted from the C:/Program Files folder.
I have no idea what keeps spawning the installation script. No errors show up in the Events viewer. I will double check when I work with it this afternoon. Thank you. |

I don't know what your security software is but a trip to Housecall at Trendmicro would also be in order. |

You should never just "delete" a program from C:\Program Files. ALWAYS use the proper uninstall method.
Reinstall the program, then uninstall it the right way. |

glc, I have already tried that. After trying that twice without success I posted my question here in the forum while also attempting to contact Corel.
It appears to be a windows installer that constantly just spawns over and over again. I am unable to locate where this software is located on the hdd or the registry. |

After many malware scans that came up with nothing I found a posting on another forum that helped me. It showed me that it is a problem that many people have seen. You have to go into msconfig and go through a bunch of steps.
Anyway, all is well now. Thank you. |

Your welcome, I've used it for some time now and find it superior to add/remove programs, plus it has other useful tools.
