Batch files

Hey!

Quick newbie type question. I am somewhat familiar with batch files but admit I do not understand the full power of them just yet nor do I think I could write one at this point. However, I am one that likes to expand my knowledge as best as I can and wondering this... Can I setup a batch file that will automatically run when I start/restart my computer that runs certain applications or let's say updates for certain programs? I know I could just add them to startup but I am just trying to realize the power of batch files and learn. Thanks for any info!

A batch file wouldn't be the way to handle this. Depending on the application, some apps have some sort of update notification feature built it

I've seen this over at filehippo: http://filehippo.com/updatechecker/

I do not know if it's any good or if it's free of adware/spyware (but my initial reaction is that it is free of it). I've seen other similar applications, but they're usually bloated and/or full of adware/spyware. Note that I'm just mentioning it, not giving it a stamp of approval.

Thanks for even responding ForceFlow...

Not really looking for a program to do it... Just information on if it's possible and where to go to learn powerful things about batch files. I've read some websites on it but I haven't been to a great source yet where everything is right there in front of me... Any suggestions?

Maybe I'm miss-reading it, but why not just put the program you want to run in the "Startup" folder?

Exactly what I said in the OP. I guess I am just looking for a resource to learn the power of batch files with all the commands, syntax, etc. I don't really need to build a batch file for startup programs, it was more just hypothetical
