I have a 3D model in Maya (.ma) format that I want to convert to a Wavefront (obj.) file
format. I do not have Maya, but I do have Realillusion's 3DXchange program that can import .obj models, but cannot import .ma format models... Meanwhile, I did find a 3D file-conversion program called AccuTrans 3D that can't READ an .ma file, but can WRITE an .ma file. A bit confusing... Is that program going to solve my problem? Or not? If not, does anyone know of an affordable or open-source 3D file converter that CAN convert an .ma format object/model into an .obj one? |

I don't, know of any "free" programs that will do what you need and you've likely guessed that AccuTrans 3D won't work.
If you're a student, however, you may have another option if you can get to a school computer lab in Engineering since it's possible that they have what you need or know someone who'd be willing to loan you some computer time if he has the necessary program(s). Failing that it's time to start calling friends and acquaintances who share your interest, you never know who might be willing to trade favors with you.
