Paragon Drive Copy
Not sure if this is the appropriate forum for this post or not....
I'm trying to use Drive Copy to clone my current hard drive to a spare I have. I'm doing this for backup purposes, but mainly want a clone to use in the event something happens to the one I'm using. I installed drivecopy, connected the target drive in the slave position on the ribbon. Running drive copy from the drive I want to copy (master), I get an error message that it cannot be copied because it is in use. I made sure all running programs like my antivirus software and adaware were disabled or closed...even shut off auto-update...but still get the message. Is this because Drive Copy is running? Then I tried moving things around on the ribbon. I put another bootable drive with win98 on it as the master (installed drivecopy) and put the drive to copy as slave. I then attached the target drive to another ribbon where my dvd and cd burner are (in place of the dvd drive). Now, the program is telling me that the drive I want to copy has an invalid file system (it has XP on it). Not sure what to do, I don't want drive copy to "repair" the drive I want to clone in fear that it will change it and I won't be able to use it again as my master once it's been copied. I've tried to contact Paragon, but know I will get quicker response here. Anyone have any ideas how to proceed? I remember cloning with this program before and don't remember this complication. Could it be due to the two different os's? I can't see where this would make any difference... please help if you are able..... |

Please post a link to the manual for that software.
It sounds like it won't copy a "C" drive but you've left us guessing.

Most cloning software must be run from a boot disk, not from in Windows.

problem solved
glc- you are right. what I overlooked is the request from the program to reboot. after rebooting, a command type window opened (before desktop) the whole process of cloning began within the window, a report was generated to show the progress when it was done it booted to windows and my c: drive had been successfully cloned. it was me (as usual) and not the software.... now I have a cloned hard drive to clone if my drive goes south or gets wiped out by a virus (or by user error!!!) |
