Eula
My friend purchased a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop with Vista Home Premium. We loaded MS Office 2003 and authenticated it online. The problem is every time Word or Excel is opened the EULA window pops up and asks to accept or decline. I have scrolled down the entire agreement and then clicked accept for each program. Even if I just close Word or Excel without rebooting and open the program again the EULA pops up. How can I get this to stop? Thanks.

You must accept the Office End User License Agreement every time that you start an Office program

so i took that as your 'fix' to the problem, for which i know is not correct. therefore i did not go to the link. after checking out the link, i assume that your response was the title to the link, rather than your suggested fix. perhaps it would have been more appropriate for you to respond: "this link will show you how to 'fix' the problem" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/884202 |

Not to split hairs....But reading the title to the article would gave many people the idea that it's an exact match to the problem at hand

I went to the link and tried both ways described to fix the problem and the problem remains. I appreciate the link, though on the first part for Vista Microsoft's directions left out a step or two. Any other suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Have you tried uninstalling and re-installing Office?

Try this ..
Click start and in the quick search type 'winword' from the list of programs that appear .. right click on it and choose "Run as administrator" .. you should now be able to accept the EULA and not be nagged. |

I uninstalled office and then ran ccleaner and reinstalled office. I still had the same problem. I then changed the settings as per the MS article which did not work. I then changed the registry settings and that seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks for all the help.
Thanks Statica for showing me how to "run as administrator" because the MS article said to do something like that, though they didn't say how to do it. I will keep that in mind for the future. |

The problem is with UAC not allowing the older version of Office to access the registry and write to it. By either running a registry editor or running a program as an Administrator, you now elevate your status to be able to either manually write to the registry or have the program do it for you.
Glad you were able to sort it out. |

Would disabling UAC also work in this case?

Yep .. you could disable UAC & accept the EULA .. but you probably wont find that in the MS KB
