Lots of Java updates

I thought this might be the best place to ask this question. I was in the Control panel, Add/Delete programs in an attempt to rid my hd of some very old games and programs no longer in use when I came across the Java updates.
The first listing was 'Java Update 2' followed sequentially by updates 3, 5, 6, and 7. These were followed by 'J2SE Runtime environment update 8' 9, 10, and 11.
Each of these updates are over 100 megs. Wouldn't it be sufficient to have 'J2SE Runtime environment update 11' and delete the rest? My concern is whether certain programs and games that call for Java 9 are downwardly compatible with the machine running only Java 11? I hope I explained that correctly. Thanks.

As far as I'm aware, each update doesn't take up that amount of space...that's the total space used for the entire java package. the reason for showing all those updates is so that you can easily roll back if you need to.

It seems that there is no rhyme or reason to the size of each update with the first starting at 134 meg and the 11th at 90 megs. The rest vary in size from 114 to 120. It actually looks as if each update is taking up that much space on the hd. I'm not really in need of the space since a new hd was added during the sequence of updates so some are contained on the old drive and some on the new. I'm considering formatting the older of the drives to use as a backup but I wanted to be sure that deleting updates 1 through 9 won't cause a problem. The newest update is on the newest drive.

I go through and remove the older Java updates, as far as I can tell it makes no difference to my computer's performance if I just keep two., the current one and its predecessor.
