IM question

I presently am a Windows Live Messenger user, but I recently have a friend that uses Yahoo Messenger. Is there potential problems with running both? I have avoided this in the past as AIM used to try to be default IM client. Any replies appreciated.

Shouldn't be a problem.
If you need all of those.

I've never heard of a problem running multiple IM programs.

I wish I could remember.....there was an IM program awhile back that, I think, was mentioned in one of the PCMech newsletters that was one IM program that could be used as the interface for multiple IM's. In other words, one IM program, but you could use it for your various accounts in AIM, Yahoo, etc, rather than having to have one for AIM, a different one for Yahoo, and so on. Anybody else remember that or did I dream it?

You may be thinking of Trillian.

There's a number of clients these days that support multiple IM services/protocols.

Windows Live Messenger actually supports Y! IM now. So, just add a new user/contact, and enter their yahoo email address.

Pidgin is another alternative all-in-one IM client and is open source.
