How's Nero for backup? What else is good?
OS-XP
Last time I backed up DOCUMENTS, it took the system software over 14 hours to complete. I'm looking for other programs that I could use. Friend suggested I use the backup utility that came with Nero 7 Ultra, which I already have. Anyone with experience using Nero for backing up my HUGE documents partition? Or other suggested software? |

I do use Nero when backing up to a DVD. I have just about 5 gig in my personal files and fill a DVD. Not sure but it seem like it takes less than 4 or 5 min to do it. I also have an automatic back up program that I downloaded from Iomega. Its called Quick Sync 3 and I have no idea how long that one takes because I pay no attention to it.

Do you want to only back up to dvd?
Synch back does a file for file backup. Acronis True Image can also do backups. Not sure how good either of those work with backing up to dvd though.

I plan to backup to a USB powered Passport HD. My Documents file is close to 90 gig. I did begin a Nero backup to my second IDE HD, but after running all night (8+ hours) only 1/3 had been backed up. I know I have problems with that slow IDE drive since I manually copied why whole Documents foolder in @ 12 min. I'm looking for something that will automatically do the job for me.

No matter what you use, 90 gigs is going to take a while. SyncBack will probably be the best bet, once the initial backup is done, for maintaining sync.

Agreed. Syncback would probably be the best. And it's free.
