backup restore question
Just a quick one,had some windows probs and wanted to restore a backup but never done it before,so before I spoon it, thought I would ask you guys.if I do a fresh install of windows from scratch then ihen install acronis and restore the backup I should have what I,ve got now but with fresh xp underneath right?.is that how its done?.any helps good help,as I said i ,ve never done it before.thanx in advance.

Wipe the drive, boot with the Acronis CD, and restore your last full image.

so no windows install is needed even though i would have formated the drive ? Cool will let you know how i get on cheers

That is the exact purpose of creating a full image - so you can "bare metal" restore it.

Hey GLC,
I do not see the point of wiping the drive since you are going to restore the entire partition with a backup image. Everything in the partition will be over written by the image.

Rick, this is true in theory. However, a wipe will ensure that anything harmful is gone. Today's malware has gotten to the point where a nuke and pave is often the only way to completely get rid of it.
