Ok I need a fresh perspective on this problem... I have been talking back and forth with someone at spywareinfoforum and all fixes suggested have not resolved the issue. We are at a roadblock and I am just totally frustrated with the problem and how to get rid of it.
Problem?? Windows Installer keeps popping up when logging into Windows User account for the first time and also pops up when opening a browser (both IE7 and Firefox). When Windows Installer Pops Up the event Viewer for the MSInstaller Warning states: Detection of product '{18B72572-C7FD-4586-8258-B59E2A06760A}', feature 'Configuration' failed during request for component '{3207D1B1-80E5-11D2-B95D-006097C4DE24}' Last year my boys installed something that put the FunWeb crap on my computer and the Windows Installer Pop Up started, I ran various scans which is a Read Me First Guide from Major Geeks and that removed the Fun Web crap and took care of the Windows Installer Pop Up. This year just a couple months ago my boys installed something yet again which put the FunWeb crap back on my computer and the Windows Installer Pop Up started yet again. I did the scans again and that removed the FunWeb crap but the Windows Installer Pop Up issue remained. I mentioned before that I had been getting help from spywareinfoforum here is the link to that post and you can see exactly what we have done. http://www.spywareinfoforum.com/inde...7&st=0&start=0 We have deleted the registry string 18B72572-C7FD-4586-8258-B59E2A06760A & instances of SPAMfighter (at one time I had SPAMfighter iinstalled on my computer and was told that the string for the detection of product was related to SPAMfighter). After we deleted the registry string and SPAMfighter references the string 18B72572-C7FD-4586-8258-B59E2A06760A & SPAMfighter have been searched in the registry and no instances were found but yet I keep getting the Windows Pop Up and the event viewer still states the same thing for the warning for MSInstaller ( Detection of product '{18B72572-C7FD-4586-8258-B59E2A06760A}', feature 'Configuration' failed during request for component '{3207D1B1-80E5-11D2-B95D-006097C4DE24}' ). Has anyone got a clue how to get this annoying pop up gone?? Do I need to save all my important documents and just reformat my hard drive to factory state? The last post from the helper on spywareinfoforum told me to post for help at SPAMfighter which I did but I doubt if they will be of any assistance as I no longer have that installed on my computer and no instances are found when searched (we did try installing and uninstalling it and that didn't help). Am just at wits end with this annoying Windows Installer Pop Up from He** and I have even tried installing current installer and I get a pop up telling me that I have the current version installed. OS = Windows XP home sp3 Thank you for any help, hints, tips, suggestions anyone has. Darla |

Thank you I did the reformat and it worked and now I have one more question.
Do to the fact that whatever was happening with the Windows Installer Pop Up Issue I could not save any of my documents to a CD I had to email them to an email address to be retrieved later. I wasn't thinking and just emailed myself things even folders well the folders were sent as .Ink files now I can not open those to access the contents that are in the folders. What program do I use to access the contents that are in the folders marked with the .Ink extension? What are in the folders??? Some contain pictures, some contain saved documents such as letters, resume, programs I downloaded for quicker install, information about my children, medical authorizations, etc... I hope these things are not lost forever... ![]() Thanks, Darla |

Oh boy........that's LNK, not INK. They are links (shortcuts) - if you didn't save your email folders you are probably out of luck. A data recovery program MIGHT work if the locations on the disk where they were stored haven't been overwritten, but the likelihood of that is slim to none.
