Upgrading from Office 2002 to 2007 and. . .

I am upgrading from Office 2002 to 2007 and I was wondering the best way to do this and save my Outlook settings. Or could you give me some tips on how to do this? Would there be any benefit to uninstalling 2002 before installing the 2007? Not sure if I have enough disk space for both to reside on that same drive, any suggestions appreciated.

Thank you

Thanks for the quick response was looking there couldn't put the phrasing right so I could get that article. A couple more questions should I uninstall the previous versions or let the install program do what it does? And if I uninstall them how do I do it properly, add remove programs in the control panel? Or is there another way to do it? Thanks again love this place.

I would clear sufficient disk space to have them both for a short period of time, then install 2007 as an upgrade. I believe it will offer to remove the old versions for you after it's done installing and migrating.

glc's idea is right but if you have a usb key or drive you can just move the files there while you get everything straightened out.
They could also be burned to a cd or dvd disk.

With the files backed up you can use the windows un-installer in Control Panel>Change/Remove ( Check the box at the left. ).

Recommend you do not burn the files to a CD - they will become read-only.

Only too true but ...
Drag to disk (InCD, etc.) will avoid the problem and, if it's too late for that, then here :

... is read only because it is on a CD which, of course, is read only (can't write to it). When you copy it, it maintains the read only. You must change it : Highlight all files (that you wish to change) then right click and go to properties and left click. Then at the bottom uncheck "READ ONLY"

Too easy to forget to do when you copy them back.

Not Understanding

Ok don't understand the whole usb cd thing? Can I install and run office 07 from a usb hard drive? Would there be any performance hits? Or install on the external then move it over when I delete the old one? Or am I making this a lot more complicated then it has to be?
