Best way to use Fixmbr command on netbook?

I need to use the FIXMBR command to wipe the Linux GRUB bootloader from my Acer netbook.

I can't boot Windows just now because GRUB is looking for the Ubuntu partition and I deleted it.

So how do I create something bootable to use the FIXMBR command?

TIA.

If Vista go here and read the first the post : http://episteme.arstechnica.com/eve/...m/254009228831

For XP : http://bayupw.blogspot.com/2007/08/r...ub-loader.html

General directions are here : http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/gru...aq.en.html#q12

Note that you must have a Windows CD to boot from.

Pam, netbooks don't have a floppy or an optical, that's the problem. If you haven't nuked the recovery partition, just do a fresh load.

ever hear of the Linux program: "ms-sys"
do a search on google....

if you are able to boot into linux in your netbook then just install "ms-sys" and use this program to fix the MBR, it works the same way as "FIXMBR" in winxp boot disc, fixing the MBR.

if you cannot boot to linux, then creat a bootable flash drive/sdcard with ms-sys inside and fix it that way.

That tells me that booting into Linux is not an option any more.........

to make a bootable LINUX flash/sd drive use:

UNetbootin

with a LIVE-CD ISO image file.
to make the drive a bootable flash/sd use "parted magic" in linux to mark it as "active".

Sorry about the slightly vague original posting.

I DO in fact have a USB external DVD-ReWriter so I can in fact try the solution in the link provided by PAM123.

George, the recovery partition is still intact but I don't want to reload Windows.

Thanks to all for all the solutions.

OK,

Booting Windows XP from the external DVD-ReWriter is not an option. It does not work. Just as it says that it is starting Windows, I get a BSOD STOP screen. This happens with two XP discs I have.

My best option would be to boot from a USB memory stick and run FIXBOOT and FIXMBR but nothing stands out when I google it.

Although I have XP installed on my netbook I successfully booted to the command prompt using my Vista HP disc.

I now have Windows back again.

Thanks PAM123! :-)
