A few weeks ago I began having problems with any kind of streaming video freezing for fifteen/twenty seconds then running and then freezing again. (This locks of everything including the mouse)
I also noticed that any Java app was having the same problem (obviously related). Java would start to load -- freeze, then run for one or two seconds, freeze-- and repeat. The only option was to restart the pc and avoid any java apps. I have completely removed/deleting java (latest version) and reinstalled with no success. I am assuming that somewhere I have downloaded something which is now interfering with streaming video/java. Flash animations run fine. Any ideas? Something to check? What could be handing things up?

What O/S and what browser?
What sites typically exhibit these issues?

Java Freeze Sites
Actually I am seeing it on any site that has an integrated java applet.
A couple: http://thewoodwhisperer.com/ (When I try to enter the webcam/chat area) http://www.dslreports.com/stest (When I try to run the java based speed test) |

No better
Just to be sure, I unloaded Java completely, then reinstalled based on the link your provided.
Still no change. I can't help but think it is NOT java itself, but something else that is going on whenever java appls are initiated.

Well, I visited the sites you linked to. The applet on the woodworkers site chugs a bit, but the speedtest seemed ok.
This might just be a matter of horsepower. What are your system specs? |

Systsem Specs
Performance is NOT the issue. These java apps worked fine before. It is only in the most recent timeframe that the degradation and freezes started occuring.
System Specs: Win XP sp3 3.60 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4 16 kilobyte primary memory cache 2048 kilobyte secondary memory cache 3324 Megabytes Installed Memory |

Check the event log for system and application errors/warnings (control panel > administrative tools > event viewer)
To eliminate another possibilty, try running malwarebytes to get rid of any possible malware that might be interfering: http://malwarebytes.org/ What anti-virus software are you running? |

At long last I took the brute force approach and did a new clean instsall of XP on my PC expecting that my Java problem would go away.
After the new install --- the problem did NOT go away, but I had a different failure mode. I actually got a BSOD with a nv4_disp noted as the problem. My guess was that this was a video card file for NVIDIA which was correct. I downloaded and replaced all my video card software and the problem went away. Some combination of Java Applets and a conflict with my video software manifested in the freeze of the display every few seconds. Now both the java apps are working and my actual performance has gone up dramatically. Still don't know why it happened, but it is gone. I am a happy camper!!! ![]() ![]()
