Hi Gang
Having a problem getting Adobe flash to work with this new 7RC version. Any way is there another program like Adobe that will work like it does with certain sites. Is Adobe the only ball game in town.? Thanx....Gunny

I assume 7RC refers to Windows 7? Moved to the correct forum.

Sorry GLC
I put it there because my main question was about Adobe not Win 7RC. My bo bo. Win 7RC was just something I threw in there. Thanx...Gunny |

Okay, do you want me to move it to General Software? It doesn't have anything to do with NT/2K/XP/Server 2K3, that's where you put it.

Hi GLC... Ya I guess that is the right place for it, I don't know why I put it where I did. It is software. By the way do you have any answer for my Adobe question.?
Thanx....Gunny |

However, there are two seperate plugins for windows...one for IE and one for firefox/opera/netscape. Sometimes and uninstall and reinstall of flash fixes issues. If that doesn't work, going back one revision until the next version is released sometimes works.

Uninstall all previous versions of Flash and then re-install Flash. That should get it working. This happens quite often when install flash from a web site.

Hi Rick
Thanx but I am in the habit of doing this, when ever something don't install, or download right. I have done this with Flash several times, still does not change anything. Like I have said previously, the thing that gets me is it looks liike it is installing ok, every thing seems to fall into place just like any normal program install, but it does not work. Thanx.....Gunny |

I not familiar with Windows 7RC, but is there a compatibility mode that you could try? I know Vista has that.

I am running IE8 and flash works fine.
However my wifes machine was running IE7 and I had the same problem as you, it appeared to install fine but would not run. I uninstalled flash and then went through the installation process again and everything was fine. My wifes machine is now running IE8 and again flash works fine on her machine also. Hi Rick
Well I am using Win 7RC and it comes with IE 8, and I like IE 8. I have thought of trying it with IE 7. It teamed up with Firefox like it was made for it, installed with no problems at all. So does this tell me there might be something wrong with my IE 8.? I don't have any thing hardly installed on my computer with Win 7, that is what surprised me. I even uninstalled several things just to see if they were causing the problems, with installing flash. So it has to be Win 7 or IE 8 the way I look at it. Thanx....Gunny |

IE8 has already developed a history of "issues" - and you DO need to remember that Win7 is still just a RELEASE CANDIDATE, not a finished debugged product.

As GLC said, Win 7 is still in a beta mode even though it is a RC. Therefore I cannot say whether Win 7 could be the problem or not. It also could be that your IE8 has issues with something that may be installed on your computer making flash incompatible. I am simply letting you know that I have Adobe flash installed on 2 machines here with IE8 and I have set up a couple of other machines with IE8 and flash and have not had any problems.

Ya I know what all of you are saying about these beta versions. You buy your ticket and you take your chances. But still don't it still make you wonder well his works and he has the same thing I do, why don't mine work too.? I don't care if it is a Beta or a full blown version, things like this happen all the time.
Maybe I should just dump this download of Win 7 and reinstall it. More or less just to see what happens. Who knows this just might be a bug with it, and one that is there even after it is no longer a beta version. Thanx...Gunny |

It very likely has something to do with other software you have installed.

Ya GLC I was thinking the same thing, that is why I removed several things just to see if one of them was interfering with it. I still think it might be that, but I might as well redo it completely, dump it and start over again, and have this as one of the first things I install. Are you thinking the same thing.?
Thanx....Gunny |

GLC What are you trying to say, strange problems, me Naaaa you must be thinking of some one else.
Ha ha That is true, I don't know how that happens trust me. I am just a simple guy and do the normal things on a computer, and these things happen. I don't wish them or make them happen they are just there. I promise I will try to come up with a normal problem next time. I just think there are a a lot of people out there with the same problems I have but don't say any thing. Or they don't care about or pay any attention to them. My whole life has just been filled with fixing things, I guess then I have to continue to do this even after I have been retired. Thanx....Gunny |

@redvette:
Download the latest Flash distributable from Adobe (Flash 10) in .msi format. Do not try to install it from within IE8. Right click the downloaded file and in Properties>Compatibility>Compatibility Mode, check off Run this Program..... and select "Previous versions of Windows" or Vista (if that is available). Then try running it as Administrator (Right click>Run as Administrator). It should work fine. The Flash online add-on installer is not compatible with Windows 7.

Hi pillainp
All the way from India. I think I understand what you are saying, but one thing you say to not install it from with in IE 8. Since I am trying to install this using Win 7 and IE 8 comes with it how do I get around this.? I have tried that using the Vista install. You say that the online add on installer is nt compatible with Win 7 I guess I am not completely understanding your explanation, about not installing it from within IE 8. Thanx....Gunny |

Read his post again carefully - it's very clear to me.
1. Download the Flash player in .msi format. (http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get...0_active_x.msi). Do NOT run it, SAVE it. 2. Quote:

Hi GLC
I am sorry it is not clear to me, no insult meant but this do not install it within IE 8 does not register with me. If you are using IE 8 as your browser, and you do your search for this Flash 10 version through a Google search, and click on it, how do you do this with out IE 8.????? When ever I have tried this I always save it, never just run it. I just tried doing the why you have said and I get this error 1721. Thanx...Gunny |

That sounds like a Windows Installer error. Are you enabling the install in compatibility mode and running it as administrator as he indicated?
"Do not install within IE8" means do not use the online installer - save the .msi file, CLOSE IE8, and do the install using Windows Explorer, not Internet Explorer. |

Hi GLC
Hey no offense meant. Some times it is the wording you use, that I might not be used too using about how to do some of this stuff. I am not stupid just a little slow some times on the up take. Give me a "B" on the understanding, but a "A" on effort. ha ha ha Plus I am not all together on where things are and what they are called yet on this Win 7, remember I skipped Vista. XP is still embedded in my brain. I will give this a try after I get rid of all the old flash stuff just to make sure that don't interfer with it. I am having a little problem with the compatibility coming up. I installed this Flash on my wife's computer that she has running Win 7, and it installed like a dream and it works great. No problems only diff I might have a few more programs installed on mine as compared to hers. Thanx....Gunny |
