Song Player While Gaming
Hey
I was just wondering if there's a program out there that can play songs on my computer while I have a game running. Kind of like just running iTunes but with less memory usage and more discrete. If anyone knows anything like this please help me out, thanks! |

You can use winamp and use hotkeys to control playback (or if you have media buttons on your keyboard, you can use those too)

1. I'm not against windows media player, I like it, it's just I can't change the song (like iTunes) while I'm playing a video game.
2. Does winamp allow me to control it while playing a game? Or even just bring up an overlay menu (like Steam if you're familiar with that). Thank you. |

I tried winamp. It's really cool. But I couldn't get it to do what I want. I hotkey for next track is "b". That didn't work while I was in game. And I even tried putting it in "windowshade" mode (like really small window) and setting that to always on top but it still didn't work, the game was on top, over the player. Any suggestions now? Thanks for all the help so far!

Try creating a playlist before you enter your gaming session. Or are you looking for randomness of like the shuffle feature?

For hotkeys, you can't use something that's already bound in-game. You will probably have to use a 2 or 3 key combination.
I use leftctrl+leftalt+pageup and leftctrl+leftalt+pagedown to go to the next or back to the previous song in a playlist. leftctrl+leftalt+home is pause/play I chose those combinations because they're not used by anything else and they are easy to reach without wandering too far from the typical gaming controls. |
