Not sure where this goes
Ok old rig motherboard died a horrible death. Got new rig in signature with windows vista ultimate (didn't know there was an ultimate) My old hard drive was copied over to the new one now how do I go about getting my favorites out of the old files? What about my documents and stuff just scroll through the back up find them and move them? Any help appreciated. Any tips also appreciated.

Essentially, yes.
Look in documents and settings\(username) for that stuff. |

I cannot find the old my documents file in my back up. I had a bunch of office documents that I cannot find. Maybe if you can give me a little more specific directions. Sorry took me so long to get back but I must have missed my email notification going to check that now.

More Information
Windows XP Pro, I use to have a my documents file but I can't seem to find that in the back up. Appreciate all the help.
Ok found the files (I think) they were under C:\Backup\Documents and Settings\User then my documents. Now where would I move those files for windows ultimate to the my documents folder on the new os? Still haven't found the old emails but not sure I am going to need those. Last edited by borbos; 09-19-2009 at 10:34 AM. Reason: Forgot some details |

Going forward
Copy and paste to My documents in Vista Ultimate? I was looking for my old emails from my Outlook program, doubt there is anything important there. Thanks for sticking with me.

Outlook or Outlook Express?
You will be copying and pasting EVERYTHING you want to move over, you just have to (A) Find it, (B) Verify it's what you want, and (C) Put it where it belongs. It's only logical to copy everything that's in My Documents in the backup to My Documents in the new installation...........just remember Vista's folder structure has been changed but you shouldn't have a hard time figuring out where your documents are supposed to go. |
