Office won't uninstall/reinstall

Hello. At first my Outlook 2007 wouldn't open. So I tried to uninstall it. It gave me an error and prompted me to grab the cd/dvd and reinstall from there. When I try to use the dvd, it encounters an error. I've already gone to the article referencing this in MS's database and followed the instructions (find 'X' file and delete it), but it doesn't exist. I've tried booting into safe mode and uninstalling/reinstalling with the same result.

I really don't want to reinstall Windows.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It would help if we knew what errors you're getting and what article you'd read.
Also, some history would help as well ( It's one thing if a previously working program balks on you and another if you just installed it and it's never worked for you at all.).

Apologies. Hello again Pam123. It's amazing how the same people have been helping for so many years.

The first error (when trying to uninstall it): 'This product installation has been corrupted. Run setup again from the CD, DVD, or other original installation source'.

The next error: 'microsoft office enterprise 2007 has encountered an error during setup'. It's what I get when trying to install from the dvd.

The MS support article is located here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927153. It doesn't find the file when searching for it. It's gone.

I have also used the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and CCleaner and neither help the problem.

Do you have a restore point, from before the attempted install, that you can use ?

You know Pam, I've never gotten Windows system restore to work worth a poop, and not to let me down, it didn't work this time either. I tried restoring to various points, some recent, some not. Everytime I get the ole' message that my system couldn't be restored to this point.

Also, now IE8 keeps erroring and shutting down all of a sudden. FF works great. That dreaded feeling is coming over me again... you know, that 'reloading Windows' feeling that festers in your belly, hours, or maybe a day before you solidify your decision to wipe it clean and start over?

Uninstall IE8, revert back to IE6 if you can. If not, see if IE7 is still working.

At what point of instalaltion does this error occur? During writing the files? Might be an error on HDD, scan or defrag it if possible, even though the possibility is pretty low i can't figure out why wouldn't it install properly with a genuine CD\DVD
