Tryiing to run Thunderbird on Hughes Net?
Hi
I'm trying to set up my friends computer to run Mozilla Thunderbird on Hughes Net. I can receive mail fine but when I try and send I get this message.... "Error 5.7.1 Recipient address rejected: Access denied. Please check the message and try again. This is with any address that I send to, so it isn't just a glitch on the receiving server. I have the servers set to... mail.hughes.net and SMTP.hughes.net. It is connecting to the server when I hit send but it always returns this message. Anyone have any ideas as to how I can correct this? Mike |

Do you have all the rest of the settings correct for the Hughes SMTP server? That server requires authentication.

Hi
It appears that the setting are all correct. The only thing I don't understand is the following statement that was part of the instructions in the link that you supplied. In order to send email using your email client, you MUST use SMTP authentication. When configuring your SMTP server information, enable SMTP authentication then enter your email account (username@hughes.net) and your password. I don't see anyplace to do this. Have any idea what this means? Mike |

It is version 2.0.0.23.
I'm pretty sure I tried that password thing but I will give it another try. I have set up Thunderbird to run on a lot of computers and I have never run into this particular problem before. Mike |

Hi
I never did manage to get Thunderbird to work with Hughes Net. It would receive but not send. I found step by step instructions and it didn't vary from what I had already done. I finally gave up and installed Outlook Express. It set the whole thing up automatically once I typed in the E-Mail address and Password. Once it had that information it connected to Hughes, found the correct settings and did it all by itself. I don't like the interface though, I'd much prefer to have them use Mozilla but I guess they will have to go with the flow. Thunderbird seems much easier to use to me. Mike |
