Avast Nag Screens
My free trial to Avast has expired. I keep getting hit by their pop ups to pay for it now. Under Uninstall or Change a Program, Avast does not show. Is there another relatively safe method of ridding my computer of unwanted software?
I'm one of those cheapskates who believes that paying for anti-malware software is unnecessary. That's what Malwarebytes, Windows Defender, BitDefender and AVG is for.

Check under Ccleaner tools tab and uninstall (if you have it.)

Thanks...I have Crap Cleaner. I just went under Tools and Crap Cleaner cannot find it either. Is there a way to rid my computer of pop ups from a software program that cannot be found?
Is there a way to block those pop ups? |

If not, I wonder if you could use system restore to go back to a point where you could unistall. Something else to check out, try CCleaner and the registry cleaner and see if it has some leftovers from Avira (if only part of the program is left.) I doubt this would work, but I wonder if just the nag screens are there if Malwarebytes or Spybot would see it Last edited by quartet-man; 03-01-2010 at 08:22 PM. |

Avast's uninstaller usually is in the Add/Remove Programs area. If not there, they have an uninstaller you can download.
http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility There's two versions linked on that page, one for ver. 4.8 and one for the new ver. 5. Just get the tool for whichever version you've got. One more thing....you said you don't believe in paying for anti malware programs.....um, just for clarification, are you thinking that Avast ISN'T free? Because it is (the home version anyway). They just released version 5 a month or two ago.
