cloning with Ghost

hardrive is going bad and have a new hardrive to replace with. do I need to format the new hardrive and create a partition? can I then clone the old drive to the new drive hooked up in a usb enclosure?

Never used Ghost, but I clone with Acronis True Image. No need to partition and format the new drive, I boot with the Acronis CD and it does everything. That will work as long as the bootable CD has drivers to recognize the USB enclosure and the motherboard storage controller.

Ghost is pretty straight forward. No need to partition or format the new drive. Just boot from your disc or CD and follow the instructions. It will by default use the entire drive, but you will see the option to reduce how much is used should you wish to partition it.

Thank you! You are awesome. Can I hook the new drive to the laptop using a USB enclosure and clone to it?

Yes, as long as the bootdisk you are using has the correct drivers to see the USB drive, as I already said.
