Outlook 2003 sendind email problem
My friend is running XP pro with all the updates. She has Outlook 2003 that she uses for her email. She is unable to send messages. They go to the outbox and stay there. When I delete the outbox of all email the message in the Outbox says "There are no items to show in this view." In the left column under mail folders in the Outbox folder in brackets it states there are [3] messages in green.
How can I clear that number and could that be causing the problem sending email. There is no problem receiving email. Thanks |

Does rebooting help with the (3) ?
Has she made any type of change to the machine and or RELOCATE the machine to a different location that has a different ISP? |

Rebooting does not help with the [3].
She states she has not made any changes and the ISP is the same (Bellsouth). She is able to receive email, just not send. She stated she had a problem with with 3 emails that would not send and they were stuck in the outbox and that she deleted them. Now I'm wondering if they are the same [3] and though they are not showing up in the outbox, somehow they are not completely removed. |

Try deleting her account and setting it back up.
1. Goto account settings 2. Click edit on her email account. 3. Write down all the setting. 4. Delete the account. 5. Set it back up with the information you wrote down. Last edited by glc; 04-16-2010 at 07:29 PM. Reason: Removed ad link |

Thanks HonestGuy for your response. I will give that a try on Monday.
I reinstalled just Outlook from the CD, but it didn't work. It kept all the settings, so hopefully your idea will work. |

I deleted the account and then set it back up. It did not correct the proble. When I deleted the account, I closed Outlook and then reopened it and the [3] remained in the outbox.

I just finished completely uninstalling MS Office 2003. I then rebooted and then ran CCleaner. I rebooted again and installed Office. The problem persists. In the left column in Outlook under "All MAil Folders" the [3] remains to the right of Outbox. Can the registry be edited to change this value to a "0" which would hopefully fix the problem of not being able to send email. When I click on the Outbox it is empty. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Find your outlook.pst file and move it to another folder. Open Outlook and create a new personal folders file and set the account up. Then you can selectively bring back what you need with the import/export wizard.

glc, I moved the Outlook.pst to another folder and when I opened Outlook, Outlook was looking for that file and a box opened up to locate it and to click onit to open it. When I went back to the folder that contained the Outlook.pst file I noticed an archieved .pst file as well. I renamed the archieved file to Outlook.pst and opened Outlook and the problem was solved. The woman has Carbointe on her computer to backup up her data and I am guessing Carbonite created the archived file.
By the way, how would I or how does Outlook create a new folder if I didn't have that archieved folder? Thanks agiain, for your help. I really appreciate it. |

I believe I did that and named the folder Outlook.pst which didn't work unless I made a mistake naming the folder.
