Hey gang.
I just got a document in an email with an odt extension. How do I convert it to a word doc and do it for free? |

Try saving it to your desktop. Right click and select Open With and use Word.

The Word program I have is too old, I am told, to open an odt file. And, it would not open it legibly. I need a safe and effective file conversion program.

Open Office will open it and, since Open Office will save to Word form, just save it that way.

Food for thought: Send the file back and ask them to copy the text to notepad

Like the others have said, open it with OpenOffice, and if you want to save it as a doc file, do a "file > save as".
