Question Convert odt to word?

Hey gang.
I just got a document in an email with an odt extension. How do I convert it to a word doc and do it for free?

Try saving it to your desktop. Right click and select Open With and use Word.

The Word program I have is too old, I am told, to open an odt file. And, it would not open it legibly. I need a safe and effective file conversion program.

Open Office will open it and, since Open Office will save to Word form, just save it that way.

Text document created with Writer, the OpenOffice.org and StarOffice word processor; formatted using the OASIS OpenDocument XML-based standard.

OpenDocument text files can be opened and edited with any OpenOffice-compatible program, including NeoOffice (Mac), AbiWord (Mac & Windows), and KWord (Unix); they can also be imported into Google Docs, Google's Web-based word processor and spreadsheet application.

Food for thought: Send the file back and ask them to copy the text to notepad)

No you can't. They're different file formats.

Like the others have said, open it with OpenOffice, and if you want to save it as a doc file, do a "file > save as".
