Send a message via AIM to dan3223
It should install and run fine, although you may have to use compatibility mode, not sure. My boss has Office 97 running on XP and I haven't heard any complaints. You don't say what exactly your Office 97 problem is. At what point did the installation fail? Did it install okay and none of the applications will load? Please elaborate...

It comes up with:
Setup could not open the file. C:\windows.ooo System32\Findfast.cpl
also, \FFastlog.txt
\MS097.ACL
\Fonts\Arialn.ttf
\Fonts\Arialni.ttf

Theses are just a few of the messages I get.

Thanks in advance for replying to post!!

Lightbulb

I havent' tried it.
Can you make it ignore those errors? Not sure what MS097.ACL is but doubt the others would be missed.

Do you have any other versions of MS Office installed?

From the error messages, it doesn't look like it finished
installing 97 on the first go around. Is it available to
uninstall in your Add/Remove Programs control panel applet?

If everything has uninstalled Ok, you shouldn't see OSA,
findfast, and other office97 startup handydandys running
from your StartUp folder in Start/Programs.

You can always try a reinstall. And is there anything over
at the MS Knowledge Base (at the microsoft support website)?

Since I don't have XP, this is just basic guessing.

Mine works fine, Office 97 Pro and w/XP home.
The only glitch is the spellchecker in Outlook Express does not work now.
A small price to pay.

Morris, Full retail version, not a copy. although I got a student discount while at uni, doing I.T.

Is this an OEM copy of Office or a copy of the original?
The.acl is a Microsoft Accesss Extension, the FindFast.cpl is a Control panel Extension. The FFastlog.txt is the problem in as much as there are certain files that need to be found to install it. Remember XP is based on NT. Link below will give these to you.
However, if you have a bootlegged copy of this program I do not believe it will work.

May I also point out, it's stuff like this and other problems about the release of XP that will keep me using 98Se for the forseeable future. Microsoft has never released a product that was error free the first time around.

Angry Office 97

This is my third try.
I am asking for help to find the additional file types in the ValuPack of M$ Office 97. I was able to 'get external data', namely an Excel file and put it into an Access table but since I had to reload Office 97, I only have the basic default files with the notice: "Not all file types are installed by default. To add other file types, run the Setup program, click Add/Remove, Data Access, Change Option. Additional file types are also available in the Office 97 ValuPack."

It has beaten me, I can't figure it out.

Any suggestions?

Tia,

MK

Explore the office CD, there is a file called valuepack, inside it is the extra templates, sounds etc.
3 times lucky eh ?

In explorer you can drag and drop the ones you want to the same office file types, EG; excell, powerpoint, word, etc etc.
