Google Chrome won't load pages?

Hi

I have been trying to fix Google Chrome on my friends computer running Windows XP service pack 3 and it's driving me up the wall.

To bring you up to date he had malware that would not let him connect to the internet a week or so ago.

I went to his house and ran Malwarebytes from my Memory Stick and it removed the problem Trojan.
I also changed the Lan setting back to “Not use a proxy server”, so that he could connect.

However whenever Chrome tries to connect it will not load any pages, not even the Google home pare. Just a blank screen.

Today he had a problem with Internet Explorer, always being diverted from the page he was trying to load.

This time Malwarebytes didn’t find a problem but SuperAntiSpyware did and it corrected the problem with IE. But Chrome still won’t work.

I have searched for an answer to this and while I have found a lot of people having the same problem I haven’t found anyone who has a clue as to how to fix it.
The one thing that seems to be common is that everyone seems to be using Windows XP, everyone had the Adware Trojan and now they can not get Chrome to work.

I have uninstalled it, removed all the registry entries, deleted the folders and reinstalled it and it still won’t work.

Does anyone know anything about this, no one on any of the places I have looked for an answer does.

The only solution I have seen is to add “-no-sandbox after the chrome .exe file but that didn’t work for him when I did that it wouldn’t even open. But turning off Chrome Security doesn't seem to be the best idea anyway.

Any help appreciated.

Mike

Mike, try checking the TCP/IP Properties of the network device (lan device) See if they have been changed from Auto to a specific IP. I had a problem connecting a while back with an XP box and even after removing the Proxy redirect in Internet Options, I was getting redirected. Just go to the Control Panel>Network Devices>Right click and select Properties of the lan device>highlight the TCP/IP and select the Properties button.

Hi

I did check the Lan setting and set it to automatic.

The Maleware he had (the AV Antivirus Trojan) did change it to a specific setting but that has been resolved.

Internet Explorer is working normally so this only seems to affect Chrome.
When the trojan was active neither one of them would work.
