Transfer 33 Gig of music to new computer

Computer (1) is dying. It is running Vista and there is a MUSIC folder that has a few folders inside it. One of those inside folders is labeled "iTumes Music" and it has 33 Gig of songs in it.
I am using Nero 7, (DVD-Rom-ISO), setting, to try to burn the songs to DVD's. I highlight and drag maybe 100 songs from the right side to the left. The bar at the bottom tells me that the space is about 3.9 gig, so I figure that is safe since the DVD capacity is 4.7 gig. Then I do the burn. It seems OK, however when I look at the songs actually burnt to the DVD, I maybe only got 80 out of the 100 that i thought I had burnt to the DVD ???? Why am I not getting all the songs ?? Question two....I am about 75% complete moving the songs from the 10 DVD's so far to the new computer running Windows 7. However I have already taken up 33 Gigs of space. Why am I using a LOT more space on the new computer than it took on the old computer ?? Many thanks, Mike

Are you burning the files on as data not media or music?

As for question two, I'm not sure what you mean.

Best way to transfer data from one disk to another is to get one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-002-_-Product

These are great and will save you a lot of trouble in the future. I highly recommend you get one.

faint545---Thanks for the reply. I am using Nero 7, and I am choosing DVD, and then ISO. I am not sure if that is data or music. I do not see any choices for MUSIC.
My question #2 was that on the first computer ALL the songs took up 33 gigs of space. I still have not finished copying all the songs from the DVD's that I made, and I already have used up about 35 Gigs of space on the new computer. When i am finished, I will probably take over 40 gigs of space on the new computer, that only took 33 gigs on the old computer.
I have those cables (or at least mine look like those from Newegg) but my cables do not fit the connections on the hard drive from the HP computer. The connections on that hard drive are much smaller.

Maybe you have the original drive's contents compressed? You can check drive attributes under Properties.

>ISO's are bootable/playable discs. I think you want to drag the music files onto the DVD and create a data disc. Then drag the files off the disc onto the new drive and you should be all set.

To eliminate ambiguity, next time you copy data to a DVD/CD, use the Windows built in utility. Highlight ALL files, right click then choose "Send To" > "DVD/CD" and Windows will burn the files onto the disc as data. This will preserve the file sizes as is.

What kind of drive is it? Laptop drive? Please post make and model if possible.

Check the file sizes on the DVD. If they are bigger than the original file than there's your answer.

Please go back to your other thread. You are doing this the hard way, you need a proper USB adapter cable for that hard drive.

glc---I know this is the hard way of doing things, but the girl whose computers that I have, would like all the music "backed up" on CDS/DVD's in case this happens again. See the existing computer a HP, boots up sometimes. This was the model that had bad soldering connections.
While it is STILL booting up, (intermittantly) I thought I would burn all her music to DVD's and make her happy. I will double check those cables tonight that I have, and make sure there isn't an adapter that I am missing. Because the cables look just like the ones you referenced.

If there is a folder called iTunes Music, then she must be using iTunes, use the built in backup utility... it will fill and span the discs.

The other option, of course, is simply back it all up to an iPod.....

Then deauthorize the old computer, install iTunes on the new one, authorize it, then copy it all back from the iPod.

Don't forget that you'll need a 3rd party software to do so.

Since when did Apple allow this? This is surprising.

Success...Well I continued to burn the remaining songs to DVD's. It took 16 of them. Now, she has a backup in case this computer fails. Then I copied everything to the new computer. It still bothered me that it now took 51 gigs of space, and only 33 gigs of space on the old computer. So, I took the hard drive out of the old computer and checked it again. I noticed that there was a plate or adapter on the end of the HD. When I removed it, I saw the usual SATA connections. I hooked up my cables, and 30 minutes later I had copied all the music to another folder on the new computer. It took up just 33 gigs, like the old computer. Then I deletd the old folder where the 50 gigs were. So, all is well after a long ordeal. Thanks again to everyone who offered advice. Mike
