Flac to MP3 prog?
I'm looking for a freeware program that can convert .FLAC music files to .MP3's. I need to convert about 10gb of music so it can be played on a portable player, so a user friendly batch convertor would be ideal.
Any suggestions? |

Your best bet is to convert the FLACs to WAVs. The conversion should be quick, as FLAC isnt nearly as compressed as mp3. After your FLACs are WAVs, then convert those to mp3.

I googled it, there appears to be a lot of converters out there for FLAC to MP3. Never used one, so I didn't post.

Yup there are lots out there. Most I saw were costly, or if free had limited batch capabilities. I perservered and found a prog called "Bonkenc" which is free and does batch converting directly from FLAC to MP3. I'm trying it out right now.

I'm pretty sure Audacity will open and/or convert this kind of file!

Audacity 1.2.6 can only open 16 bit FLAC. 1.3.7 or newer beta can open 16 and 24 bit, and I think it may be able to batch convert.

Thanks. I will try it shortly. Bonkenc works well, but it will not create individual folders for each album after it's converted to .mp3. All the songs from every album are dumped into one big folder. If I want to maintain the album folders, etc I have to create them myself. If Audacity creates album folders, it'll be a winner for me.
