Almost always caused by a ram fault. It can also be caused by a hard drive with bad sectors or a CPU with bad cache.

I'd download memtest86+ and run it - and also download and run hard drive diags from the hard drive manufacturer.

been trying for over a year and still cant get this.

LOL j/k. I brought this ole computer back out and i salvaged the data i wanted from the hard drive by slapping it into another computer.

It browsed throught the files ok through the file manager.

Its not the ram unless ALL THREE sticks are bad because i tried each individual one by itself and same thing.

I looked into that program you said, downloaded it and i must be too stupid to run it. The websites instructions tell you to run the setup file but its a .S file.... I got the program extracted down to the iso, but it doesnt look like any file on there would open if i burnt it to a cd. and i dont know if this machine will boot with cd even if i set it to that in the bios because every time i tried installing xp, I had to get the **** floppy discs out and make 7 boot disks just to start the install..

so, would i be wasting my time to just try another fresh xp install since i have all my data backed up? or does it sound like the processor cache like you said?

While the hard drive is slapped into the other computer, run diags on it.

Download the memtest86+ iso and burn it as an image, it will be bootable.
