Convert DVD and Blu ray to MPEG4?

What's a good program to convert DVDs and Blue Ray discs to MPEG4 video? One that is simple to use and effective without spyware...

I want to transfer an exercise video my wife has on DVD to my Tivo DVR for easy repetitive playback.

Handbrake is a popular tool to use, though you may have trouble decoding blu-ray discs due to the copy protection.

I did finally download handbrake. I had heard of it before but never used it. Can it also edit clips? I would love to be able to edit and cut clips as needed. What program could I use(free preferred)?

You can either use DVDknife to extract individual clips from the DVD, or convert the entire DVD to an MPEG1, then open and edit within windows movie maker.

Handbrake is limited but, within those limits, it's superb.
Go here to read up on it : HandBrakeGuide

Blu-ray Ripper - 5 ways to rip Bluray, free Blu-ray ripper

Technically it may be illegal, so be ethical about it and own the disks you plan on ripping.

Have you used any of these? Are they safe and effective?

Jeff,
I have never used the freeware version nor heard any reviews. I have heard some great reviews of SlySoft's AnyDVD. It's actually sold overseas because the DMCA makes it illegal here. I eventually want to store Bluray movies to a hard drive but have not got around to it yet. In researching how to do this, AnyDVD seems to be the best way of going about it.

SlySoft AnyDVD | any dvd, region free, dvd copy, copy dvd movies, dvd decoder, dvd ripper, macrovision, dvd copying software
