Files won't open
My daughter tried to move files from her external hard drive to her documents and she said she can't read them. My guess is the external HD is FAT32 and her laptop is NTFS. If this is true, how can I convert those files to NTFS so she can open them ?

Nope it's not the file system.
Posting the error message she gets when she tries to open the files would help. Odds are she's getting an Access Denied message.....You didn't mention her OS, but try the following: How to take ownership of a file or folder in Windows XP How to take ownership of a file or a folder in Windows XP

That looks like important information
![]() What types of files are they and does she have the proper application to open them? They are either corrupt or she's using the wrong app to open them. Opening an Excel spreadsheet with Notepad for example would show the same gibberish.. |

Problem solved. I went to her house this morning and when plugging in the back up hard drive you get the usual message "what do you want to do".Instead of scrolling down to "View all files" she clicked on the first line. When I went to "view all files" it was "oh my God" there they are. This is why kids give you gray hair.
