Windows Explorer slow to sort

I've had a problem with windows explorer (windows-7) in that if I open a directory with lots of files in it, it will take 3-4 seconds for the files to sort
if the default sort order is by date. If I set the dir to sort alphbetically then
there is no delay.

the problem turned out to be Panda cloud anti-virus, if I disable that , then there is no problem.

hope this saves someone the frustration it caused me.
