PDF documents wont open

Hi all
for some unknown reason I can't get the PDF documents to open I only get a box with File Conversion with: select the encoding that makes your document readable with Windows (default), MS-Dos, Other encoding.
This only happens when I try to open a PDF file. I have downloaded the latest Adobe PDF 9.4 version but it doesn't make any difference. Word, Excel work fine. Any help would be much appreciated.
Mark
I have Windows XP

Try Foxit. Also try opening a PDF file in a different browser.

Uninstall Adobe Reader and all the other crap that it comes with and install Foxit Reader.

As always, READ each screen in the install process if you don't want to wind up with more toolbars and have your default search engine changed.
