E-mail in Outlook wont work

I just installed MS Office 2010 Professional. I use Inbox.com for my e-mail but I can't get it to work in Outlook. It says it is automatically detecting the settings but it fails to connect. I tried using the manual settings but that doesn't work either. Any suggestions what I can do?

Have you been through their web site?
I just took a quick peek and found these:

I just tried all those steps and get the message it can't log on to the outgoing SMTP server. What next?

You have to use port 465 or 587. 465 is a SSL port, so 587 will be easier to set up.

When it configures the e-mail, I don't see any place that I can change the port.

You will have to find where to change it. There has to be a property sheet in there somewhere where you can. The inbox.com help is for Outlook 2003. You need to configure authentication too.

I went into Mail in control panel and was able to set the port to 587 but still no luck. Receives mail but won't send.

Its possible your ISP is not allowing the outgoing mail. Set the SMPT to match your ISP's settings.

I finally got it working. Thanks to all that helped. GLC, when double checking the settings I discovered my arthritic fingers and glaucomic eyes put in port 597 instead of 587. changed it and now it works and I feel stupid. Again, much thanks to all.
