Are registry cleaners essential? if so, what are the latest MECH community reviews on the various software available?

No, but safe ones can help. I use CCleaner, and it's free.

here and there is desirable or even necessary sometimes, but random “cleaning”, especially for the novice, is inviting disaster. I have been using CCleaner's registry cleaner for years and have yet to have it cause a problem. I don't even tell it to save backups.

Great product, It is the last thing I do after a clean install... I install the drivers, MSE, updates, then run CCleaner. I to use it after install and uninstalls as well. I am also like glc in that I have never backed anything up and never had a problem. Their Defraggler product is very good as well.

Like glc, I also have been using CCleaner's registry cleaner for years and have no problems. I install it on every computer I build and fix.

Long time no see, LP. Good to know you're still around.
