Locking the computer

Is there anyway to lock the computer besides putting a password on it.

Something like still in "process". or it goes in to bios. I do have a wireless card.

or it just shutsdowns randomly.

You could always physically lock it. Some cases come with locks that prevent one from accessing the power button or removing the cover.

Or, put a secret switch on the back or inside that is in line with the wires to the start button.

Control Pane>l Power Options allows you to chose when the computer sleeps, display goes dark , etc. and if woken up before the set time you can require a password for that.

But, seriously, if this is just to prevent casual use (It won't stop someone really determined.) then a case with a lock as David suggested would also work.

Depending on the level of encryption that you need .. I would highly recommend using BitLocker to protect your data, rather than the standard username/password schema.

I just want to scare them into thinking that they destroyed the computer.
