This is a new one on me.
The first thing I would do is download a new copy , dump the old one and clear the cache, and make sure your security software is behaving. Also, for now, disable "Ping" if you use it. I realize you may have already done this so now we focus on your wifi set up and we need info on it.

Thanks Pam123, Im running a Nettcomm 3G21WB thru Bigpond 3G network.
Itunes made my dropout problems worse, as I did have problems before installing. The dropouts increase when running my laptop (Inspiron 1720) thru the wifi connection, my desktop being wired. I get round the problem by disconecting & reconecting the modem. Its lights do not indicate a dropout? Thanks Bodin |

You have an all-in-one modem/router combination.
Has the wired desktop ever lost connection ? edit : This is important since it would mean that your modem/router is malfunctioning Last edited by pam123; 12-06-2010 at 07:10 AM. |

I'm hoping you have a copy of all your current settings on that modem/router.
You're going to reset the router (This returns it to factory default) and redo the internet settings on your desktop and the laptop(Delete the old settings on both and create new ones) If you're using WEP switch to WPA for the security setting, select TKIP and PSK. You should leave the win7 firewall on but use a simple anti-virus like AVG free edition, no security suites. If you've got one installed follow the creator's instructions for uninstalling AND MAKE SURE YOU GET IT ALL before installing AVG. If the drop outs stop with the settings redone and the change in AV software then fine. If not you need to get the modem/router replaced (Third time's a charm.). If you're not sure how to make the changes post back and we'll walk you through it. . |

AVG is no longer simple - I recommend Microsoft Security Essentials.

Pam123, I have not reloaded ITunes on desktop (have a copy on laptop) since removing
from desktop I have not dropped signal (3 days) so I think I will see how it goes for a little longer with your instructions as backup. I have tried resetting router and tried AVG previously, but not together. Thank you for your help, I will let you know how its going in a week or so. Bodin |
