INFO: Issue With Recent MS Updates

Fyi:

Quote:
microsoft has been working with yahoo all day (yesterday) on this and we have been able to confirm that this was caused by an update to older versions of the yahoo toolbar. This update caused users of yahoo toolbar v7.x on all currently supported versions of internet explorer and windows to experience the crash state. It also appears to have only impacted users in the united states, but the reason for this is currently unclear.

They tell us they should have it resolved soon (within approximately 12 hours) and they should be releasing a statement shortly. In the mean time i can share the below statement from yahoo.

"yahoo is aware of the reported issues with older versions of the yahoo! Toolbar and we apologize to those who have been affected. To quickly remedy this issue, please unistall the yahoo! Toolbar and restart your browser.

The latest, optimized version of the yahoo! Toolbar which is compatible with ie is available for download at toolbar.yahoo.com. This version contains many new features that keep you up to date with the latest news, email and much more"

outlook 2007 slowdowns:
Outlook 2007 Slowdowns

a number of users are reporting performance issues with outlook 2007
after installing update 2412171. Possible symptoms include:

* slow performance when changing folders, especially folders that are in different message stores.
* loss of archive functionality
* errors receiving mail on accounts that use secure password authentication (spa)

*how do i fix it?*

at this time the only fix for it is to uninstall update 2412171, which you can do in one of two ways:

1. Control panel> add/remove programs. In windows 7 click "view installed updates", find kb2412171 and uninstall it. In earlier versions just make sure the "show updates" checkbox is checked and find the update on the list. This is the best way to do it, as a general rule.

2. System restore. If you can't remove the update individually, use system restore and restore back to the point before the update was
installed. See this article.

What exactly was the problem with Yahoo? Crashes? BSODs?

And here's the reason why I have Windows updates turned off, and smoke on the spot any updater for any software.
