What do you mean exactly? You can backup your registry before you make changes and revert back to the backup if you find problems. I have never ran into problems with CCleaner. Run analyze and it will tell you what you are going to delete or you can select them one by one and click clean after right clicking on History, chrome, temporary files ect. Provide more details on what you are afraid it will delete.Your OS and system might be helpful depending on your situation. You can also be specific with what registry files you want to fix. It will delete everything if you tell it too, but it prompts and warns you first.

I use both defaults for cleaning and for the registry, with the lone exception being I uncheck and don't delete the Recyle Bin. I've never backed up and I've never had a problem and I've been using it quite a few years. It's probably one of the best freebies around.

CC is the only registry "fixer" I trust and use. Been using it since it came out as well.
I never back up the registry, btw. So far, I've yet to run into a problem because of CCleaner's registry entries deletions. The only problem with CCleaner right now is that it's started to bundle Google crap with it, so CrapCleaner is kind of an ironic, oxymoronic name now. But just make sure you uncheck those boxes during install and you're fine.

Hey Nuke, does the slim version of the installer have all that in it too? Because that's how I used to get around their inclusion of the toolbar in the full package; by getting the slim version instead. Or have they crammed that stuff in ALL versions now?

Hmm, I had never heard of the slim version. Shall have to peek at their website again. Thanks for the heads-up.

CCleaner - Builds
The page says the builds other than the full regular version aren't for distribution. Guess that means you're not supposed to use them on systems you build for someone else maybe? I don't see what the diff would be really. |

What I essentially do is to install it onto a customer's machine to do maintenance; once that's done I uninstall it.

NK, I don't know if you can do this with customer machines; but I sometimes make a folder under 'My Computer' for my family's machines and put it there. I choose to not install any shortcuts and change the default install location.
BTW, I choose to make the backups and put them in the same folder. I have never had to use any of the back ups.

My guess is CCleaner does not want their software put on machines that are making someone a profit and botched the wording.

You can download and use the other builds however you want. You just can't redistribute the installers.
