Frostwire
Whats up with this? Everyone i talk to these days with a good amount of music say they get their music from it. I looked up frostwire and you gotta pay for have it, but i know tons of people who dont. Wheres a good place to get it free? How is it legal? Its songs are free, yet itunes charges basically 1.29$ every song now? (used to be only the primo songs were 1.29 but typical inflation) Any input on this?

Frostwire is peer to peer and the legality is very questionable.

If the artists are not making money then it's illegal, unless it is from the hand full of artists who occasionally give it away.

Frostwire is a free p2p program that is basically the same as limewire (except the UI). Both are illegal and the musicians do not earn any money.
If you honestly don't care about the artists making a living then go ahead and google frostwire. First site should send you to a download. If you do want to support the hard working, artistic, wonderful musicians then you should go buy a CD or download the song from iTunes. But be warned, both limewire and frostwire are loaded with viruses. Its kind of like walking down a busy street where 98% of the people are infected with an air born virus and your chances of NOT getting it are close to 0.

+1 that last statement. I've worked on a lot of heavily infected machines and there's one common denominator to most of them: p2p programs. Main culprits: Frostwire, Limeware, and Bearshare.

Yeah, that was my main concern was viruses. I love music, really, but with itunes i just cant afford that crap. 1.30$ a song is bs. Is there anywhere thats safe yet cheaper?

Excellent analogy Anomo. :thumbs up:
Diesel, I would Google "inexpensive music" and go from there. I am sure music artists want to be cost competitive as well. |

For my feelings to the artists that have their music "stolen" refer to south park season 7 episode 9 called Christian Rock Hard. That basically sums it up.
As for frostwire, bearshare, limewire... etc, I really recommend avoiding. I can't tell you the number of times someone had downloaded a virus from one and wants me to fix it. I would stick with getting the music from your buddy or relative. Technically its illegal but its better than copying a cd from the net riddled with viruses. You can always download from amazon or walmart as well. Song by song

i always downloaded music from limewire and never got a virus from them just as long you stick with pic music and videos you will be fine
if you download .exe files or folders it will be i virus and out of all the money you spend on a song or cd the RIAA gets most of it and a tip if you use a p2p program disable the uploads Last edited by rickybennett; 03-11-2011 at 10:10 PM. |

And how do you know exactly how big it should be? All you can do is make an estimate, which is by no means definitive nor defining. Most viruses are only bytes or kilobytes in size. I've personally cleaned PCs with .wma and .mpg infected files, all of which were ”about the right size”.
Most people is not really going to be analysing each file. |

Death, did you get my PM?
That's the cheapest and best gray area legal way of getting music. You will also never get a virus that way. |

You could always use spotify. Its free (20 hours a month), legal and the artists get their money. If you want to listen to more then 20 hours a month, you can buy premium. If you do that you can also have it on your smartphone/ipod touch. There is even an offline mode so you can take the music with you. Of course this is only for the premium users. Premium is about 20$ a month. There is also a version where you can't take the music with you for about 10$ a month, but again its legal, the artists get money and free if you don't listen to a lot of music.
Give it a try at Spotify. Besides, if you make a playlist, you can log onto another computer with the software and play it there. |
