iTunes refusing to install
Evening folks,
Having a problem installing iTunes. The client downloads and the set-up initiates, but as soon as the green progress bar reaches halfway (i.e. before I've even chosen where to install the program to), it crashes and disappears. It's definitely not running in the background. Tried running the client as an admin, but that doesn't make any difference. This is the first time I've tried to install iTunes on my new hard drive. 'Tis particularly frustrating as I just got my iPhone fixed after nine months of it being barely functional, and now an annoying niggle is keeping me from listening to music. Woe and alas! Would be much obliged for any assistance you can provide! |

I need some information about your computer before I can help.
What operating system are you running, is it 32 bit or 64 bit, and what security software do you have installed? Are there any error messages? If so what is the exact wording?

I'm running 32-bit Vista. Have the free version of AVG 2011 installed. Spybot and Malwarebytes are also installed, but I haven't used them in a few months.
There are no error messages. As soon as the green progress bar reaches a certain point, it literally just crashes without warning/explanation. |

You will run this as administrator.
Delete the install copy you now have, check your temp folder and empty the recycle bin as well, and download a fresh copy and save it to disk. If you've missed any Vista updates install them now. Now make sure your security software, updated please, is disabled while you run the iTunes setup. If it crashes on you I want the exact error message, if any, and open Event Viewer in Administrative Tools to see what's logged there and post it back here. If all goes well you will set up iTunes in your User account as a separate step. |
