I just finished taking Motion Graphics I using After Effects, it's a neat program and I plan to take Motion Graphics II in the Fall to further my knowledge of After Effects.
Here's some of my work that I did for the class: YouTube - Masks and Mattes and this YouTube - Thunder Over Michigan 2011 I have more work but I haven't uploaded to youtube. My instructor did this video : YouTube - got music? and here's a video on how they made it: YouTube - MAKING OF GOT MUSIC So obviously there is a lot of things you can do with After Effects (and other related video production tools).

My 16 year old son is learning CGI at a college in SF. That is what he wants to do as his profession. After Effects is one of the software packages he is learning. What he can do with it is pretty impressive.

Youtube tutorials leave quite a bit to be desired. "Um, ah, I'm gonna show you... er, the very basics of AfterEffects. Yes, I think that's what I wanna do. Er, now, um, ah if you click here..." zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Doesn't even tell one which version they're using. Try Adobe TV instead: AdobeTV
