Adobe Reader X Oddity
So here's the deal. I have 3 machines all loaded with the same programs and each experience this problem differently. They all have Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit and Adobe Reader 10.0.1. Some things to note, they all have AVG Business Edition 2011 and LogMeIn on them as well as Windows Firewall enabled. I will label them Red, Yellow and Blue. The problem happens when it is opening an auto-fill form(from customer information automatically filling into the PDF when its opened). I have gotten multiple errors such as: "Fatal Error: Failed to contact the DDE Server" and "There is a problem with Adobe Reader. Please close and restart all instances of Adobe Reader." Something to note, this is when trying to open from Internet Explorer 8, this is the only program these PDF files can be run through, they CANNOT be saved or opened in any other browser.
Computer Red can open PDF files fine EXCEPT when trying to do the auto-fill in forms. Computer Blue can open PDF files fine EXCEPT when trying to do the auto-fill in forms AND/OR if another PDF file is already open. Computer Yellow can open any PDF files no matter what the situations or circumstances. Again, its weird because they are all the same hardware/software everything, but each have difference problems. Any ideas as to where to start? I have tried repairing the install and a complete reinstall of Adobe Reader X on Red and Blue, but no improvements. I put the sites on Trusted Sites and Allowed through AVG/Windows Firewall/IE Pop-up Blocker. No improvements. Any help would be great. I am thinking of going back to like Adobe Reader 7.0 or so and seeing if its just Adobe Reader X. Thank you guys in advance for your help and support, Hippo Last edited by Hippo08; 04-28-2011 at 04:57 PM. |

Sorry for replying to my own thread, but couldn't edit it.
Here is an update and temporary solution to the problem. I uninstalled Adobe Reader X and installed Adobe Reader 9.4 for Windows 7. It would bring up all of the PDF files without error, however it was slower than Adobe Reader X. I am going with Reliability over Speed. I am pretty sure it has to do with the way Adobe Reader X is contacting the DDE Server, but didn't have the patience to go into the registry/program to find the exact files that I would need to edit. If anyone has a solution to Adobe Reader X, let me know! Thank you guys! |
