Where in Windows 7 is the address book stored for outlook 2003

My friend's hard drive has failed, but I am able to access data by connecting it to the computer as an external drive.

I have transferred the Office Data File (pst) for Outlook to the new hard drive and I am able view his email. The problem is that I can't find where the address book is located on the old hard drive so I can move that to the new hard drive. Both the old and new hard drives are running Windows 7 home premium.

When I go to C:\users\username\AppData\local\microsoft\Outlook there is a folder named "Accounts" 3 files
1.) archive
2.)extend.dat
3.)outlook

The outlook folder is the folder I moved to the new hard drive for the emails. Would the address book be in the "extend.dat" file or is it somewhere else? Thanks.

Doesn't Outlook store all the contacts in the .pst along with all the mail folders?

Rob, you should change your folder options to show hidden files and unhide extensions.

Pam, When I click start, then all programs, I don't see a file or folder called "Windows contacts."

glc, I have checked in folder options to show hidden folders already. Is unhide extensions part of show hidden folders or do I need to check something else? Under "view" in folder options I didn't see anything specifying extensions.

With Outlook open in the left column under "Mail" there is a tab named contacts and when I click on it the contacts are there. I didn't see that before. The problem remains when I click on "new" to compose a new email and then click on "To" I get a message stating:

"The address list could not be displayed. The Contacts folder associated with this address list could not be opened; it may have been moved or deleted, or you do not have permissions. For information on how to remove this folder from the Outlook Address Book, see Microsoft Office Outlook Help."

I guess I have more research.

Thanks for your help. Additional suggestions are appreciated. Thanks again.

Directly under show hidden files and folders - uncheck "hide extensions for known file types".
