Few little glitches in the new system

K so i built my computer a while back with the support of some of you guys on here, so far its been running great. I ordered it on 4/27 but its probably been running for only about a month and a half. Anyways, after going through a few slight problems on first startup, its been running awesome. Currently i have 1 main problem, and 1 little one thats becoming worse i think. The main one is, my 27' ASUS monitor, keeps randomly blanking out. This is completely random, unless there is some kind of activity going on, such as a game. It most commonly happens during web browsing or something. It just blacks out, but stays on, like its getting no signal, the current fix has been just turn the monitor off, then back on, and its usually fixed. I tried a graphics driver update, and it didnt help. Any ideas? Also for the second issue, on first startup as in first 5 seconds after button is pressed, one of my fans is going on max speed. This is also random, and odd. As soon as i press power button one of the fans just goes full speed, no idea why. Any suggestions for either of my issues?

Sorry for long read, and thanks for any help.

As for the fan, is it the video card fan?

Try another monitor and see if it does the same.

Ive tried another monitor, it doesnt, however it is an old 20ish inch. I actually have already RMAd one of these monitors and got a brand new one and its the exact same problem, i doubt its the monitor. I cant tell which fan it is but i dont think its the video card fan. I just did a stress test, and turned the fan speed up as high as i could and it doesnt sound anything near the sound or noise from start up. Im trying to see if i can update drivers for my mobo, where specifically do i go for that? Asus P67 Sabertooth

your manual clearly has the instructions for the BIOS update methods. Refer to section 3.10 in your manual.

Beta 1606 BIOS has a (5. Enhance PCIE compatibility fix). You should contact Asus to confirm this is a reliable solution for your issue. I believe it is but I would contact them. Quick phone call or email.

I would use the newest non-beta bios. I don't know how the new boards with UEFI handle it, but the best way to update a traditional Asus bios is with EZ-Flash and a USB flash drive.

I didn't see 1801? But now I do, strange. Sorry about that, I would not have recommended the Beta if I seen 1801 the first time.

K, and of course no luck. Still having the same issue, and now my computer does that dumb double boot thing. Whenever you press the power button it acts like its gunna start, then shuts off, then fully boots up. The fan going full speed issue has stopped though.

I believe that is normal, the double boot thing as I recall. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

So your screen is still doing the same thing? If so, contact Asus. there are e few posts of problems like yours on their forum. It appears to be a BIOS issue and maybe the beta was created to address the issue but I am not certain.... again, contact Asus. before proceeding

My computer does it too. Both the fan speeding up and then silencing itself after a few seconds (in my case it's the video card's fan) and the booting thing. Running an Asus mobo as well.

Okay..big Whoa and problem now. Today i was playing on WoW, nothing out of the ordinary, started up ventrillo, and plugged in my headphones, and on the bottom right corner of my screen getting a pop up saying my CPU tempature was 85*Celcius. This is obviously bad, and i know for certain ive never gone anywhere close to it. Normally my computer case is literally cold to the touch, its full aluminum Lian Li, after immediatly shutting down the computer i waited around 10min, and touched the case. It was actually quite warm, surprisingly warm. Again, my case is normally room temp, and often cold, but has not once ever, even when playing crysis on maxed settings, ever been warm, and also ive never gotten a CPU temp warning since my first bootup. (CPU fan wasnt on all the way) Ive got to think this has something to do with the bios update, thoughts? And yes i will be checking to make sure all fans are spinning tonight, atm cant.

I would check you heatsink fan and remount. You need to call Asus about your problem unless it was the CPU heatsink all along.

Think so? Why would that cause the sudden overheating? Also, with the stupid fan going full blast, it just happened 3 times in a row, until i said hell with it, waited it out, then went into BIOS and turned the CPU profile from performance, to power saving.

The overheating could have been there and a BIOS fix (if you did one?) may have corrected the report to the BIOS. Additionally, your reluctance to contact ASUS or inform the thread as done so leads me to the end of the road. I am at a loss to how I can further assist you. Your co-operation may help others solve issues similar to yours.

Yeah, im going to contact asus probably tommorow, unless they have 24/7 support. Ill look after i post, anyways, i took the thing apart, and found that most likely the CPU was slightly loose, and i went ahead and triple checked to make sure it was secure this time. No wiggle at all. However, that doesnt solve the dang screen problem because it already happened once in the BIOS screen as i was monitoring CPU temps.

I'm assuming you've already made sure that the video card is properly seated and that the DVI plug is firmly, er, plugged in?

If you touch the DVI plug, or wiggle it a mite, does the screen go black?

Just checked both of those, they are indeed firm and secure, wiggled the cord a good amount and nothing, and made sure the card was seated well. I woulda felt really dumb if it were something like that lmao.

Sometimes the connectors don't have the best fit to begin with. It happened to me with my previous video card. If the plug, even though it was firmly plugged and all the way in, was touched/wiggled the colours on the screen would shift.

Okay just talked to asus support, and managed to stump the guy there haha. Basically he thinks the GPU might be malfunctioning, and that i should try calling Nvidia/EVGA

EDIT: Oookay, just got off the phone with EVGA's support, they are also baffled. Awesome. Im gunna try going from HDMI connection to DVI, if that doesnt work, which ive already done(on the monitor that i already RMA'd) im gunna try the monitor on my brothers laptop, and or my old computer. If the monitor doesnt blank out with any of those options the guy from EVGA has already issued me an RMA ticket in case, so hopefully i can get it figured out without having to RMA my graphics card, and basically losing a computer for 2 weeks.

Okay, until now the fan issue was somewhat fixed, it wouldnt occur if at all ever, now today i started it up and the fan wouldnt go off of full blast. I tried restarting it several times and it didnt help, then finally it went and said i had an error with one of my disks, and checked them. Now its fine, but god this is killing me. What in the world is going on?

what did you check your disks with?

I would RMA the board if you have done...
out of the case trouble shooting
memtested ram
verified voltages with power supply
verified video card is good
updated BIOS
verified hard disk
malware and virus scan

if those have all been done, Asus will handle it promptly

I havent memtested the ram, and the video card i havent checked, but ive had no issues during gaming, not really sure how to do so. I know the voltages are good, checked those with one of the reps, BIOS is up to date, hard disks are good, and i know i dont have a virus and malware issue because ive been using kaspersky and running scans quite often, ran one today as well. The system did the checking by itself. I have stress tested the video card, and it ran fine, with no artifacts or etc, so yeah, also went with AI Suite 2 i went through and tested everything it allowed me, everything shows ok.

Ok, slightly new update. After posting this, i decided to go play Metro 2033, which i have maxed out on all settings graphics wise. As soon as it loads to my last save point, the fan goes on full blast, as if starting, so i close metro, and open EVGA precision, and have finally figured out the sound that im hearing is indeed the Graphics card fan, going basically 5000rpm. So now i know for certain every time that goes off on start up, it is the graphics card. Gunna call EVGA in a minute to see what they reccomend.

Edit: Reps final words are basically, any graphics card that has had an issue with instant fan ramping to 100% speed, has internal issues and needs to be shipped back. Unfortunatly i now have to deal with RMA process and waiting with a nice machine for 2 weeks or more, but atleast itll be fixed.

sounds good. EVGA is a good brand and they should handle it quickly.
