need a backup app for win xp to fit these specs...

i would like to find a backup app for win xp tthat can do the following (commercial software is fine BTW):

do scheduled backups (every day, every week , etc) of specific folders on various drives to a single destination drive.

have a high degree of compression.

it would be nice if the program can update the backup for just the file modified instead of the entire folder. for example, i have a very large folder in mind, and i will be updating a small text file inside of it. when the program does the backup every night, or week, etc, it would be nice if it did not backup the entire folder, and instead just the text file that i updated. (not sure if this is possible while using compression on a backup)

any suggestions? thanks as always fellas, youre the best.

Acronis True Image should do what you need.

Here is a description of sync toy : SyncToy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Since it matches folder pairs it should be possible to set it up to do what you want.
I use it to keep my media drive backed up but that involves new and deleted files being matched and added or removed. I've never tried it with altered text files.
Still it's free so all it will cost you is the time to set up a test run.

pc Backup by Migo or the new name which I can't remember.

Will do full or partial to local hard, burner, usb external or to remote machine or network storage.

Other than some complications attemting to catch up when the customer fails to replace the DVD daily it sits there and does the job.

Have it doing a 5 day rotation to a local drive a 5 day rotation to a USB attached drive, and a daily burn to DVD, some compressed, some full. Have incremental capability but I don't have it active.

Acronis can certainly backup individual folders or even files if that's what you want. What version were you using?

didnt realize there was a "full" version beyond this...does the full version do scheduled backups as well?

The WD Edition is a limited OEM version that only does full images and clones. You need the retail version. Go to acronis.com and download the manual.

I disabled the "nonstop backup" because when I saved a file to the machine from across the network, it caused the save to take an agonizingly long time. Huge performance hit.
