Did you *delete* the application's files, or did you run the uninstaller in add/remove programs?

Running an uninstaller program from the software's manufacurer doesn't always completely remove it. Samething goes for add/remove programs.

Most of the time the manufacturer will leave the installation folder in place but will remove the actual running files. (the .exe files and its affiliated folders.) Some of the registry enrties are also left in place in case you decide to change your mind and reinstall the program.(isn't that nice of them)

If you go into my computer and access the the file in 'programs' and just delete the file, you really haven't uninstalled it. You just gave it the inability to run or even uininstal.

I've even seen the icons left on the start menu and taskbar after an uninstall. If uninstalled, the program won't run because the shortcuts are pointing at nothing(or a folder wher the .exe file has been removed).

The most common file left from uninstalling is the parent folder. In 'Programs' you may find the folder to where the program was installed but nothing is in the folder. This most likely means that it was uninstalled but the path to reinstall is still available. Registry entries are still intact also.

Another reason these folders sometimes get left behind is because they may share the location with another folder. (ie. if you wanted to uninstall minesweeper from your computer, the folder 'Microsoft Games' will be left because it also has solitaire in it.

You can delete the files manually if you like, but finding all the entries in the registry can be troublesome and a huge pain. Programs like ccleaner will solve this problem for you. CCleaner - Download
