AVG toolbar notifications

I have a client who uses AVG 2011 in their organization and also uses the security toolbar.

Honestly, I don't think it's all that useful, but it seems to give them a little peace of mind by using it.

So, every time AVG updates or the browser updates, it throws up a "search the web" pop up, which prompts the user to change the search bar's engine from the default search engine (google in this case) to AVG secure search (which doesn't work very well). This happens in IE and FF.

The "please don't show me again" tickbox only seems to work only until the next update.

Other than uninstalling the toolbar, are there any other ways to get rid of it permanently?

Not that I know of, unless you are manually updating/installing and can customize the install/update and uncheck the toolbar.

A manual install once, then after that, it's just AVG auto-updating.

Send a message via AIM to Panama Red
That's one of the key reasons I've switched all my customers to MSSE. It's even ok to use for businesses with 10 or less pc's. AVG has become a bloated mess with constant prompts to Upgrade (make that buy) a better version.

These folks have a paid version of AVG, so they don't see the upgrade nag screen. It's just that annoying toolbar pop-up in the browsers.

What about reinstalling AVG, but leaving out the link scanner?

Disable it but don't tell them and run MSE.

It looks like if you uninstall the toolbar, the link scanner goes with it. But yeah, that looked like the only option to get rid of those browser pop-ups.

Another thing you could suggest to them is to get a real Anti-Virus program like ESET Smart Security,I used AVG for one year and never again I have always found it to have a really heavy footprint on your PC and the worst part is it can not even activily block Tracking cookies I wonder how much more power they would have to suck back there already heavy Foot Print just to ad that feature so you would'nt have to scan them out.I really like my ESET and it scans fast and I hardly know it's running when I'm scanning my PC,plus it ESET is better and cheaper at 89 bucks for 2 years.

Wade, these folks have already paid for AVG, and the thread is asking how to get it working properly, not looking for alternatives.

They are using the business edition of AVG, which connects to and is controlled by an on-site server. An end-user product won't cut it here. From what I understand, the price is right for them.

The business version of AVG is quite good and is very aggressively priced.
