Canon all-in-one stops working

A few weeks back, I woke up to computer that refused to load the navigator for my canon mp620b, all-in-one. Printer part worked, but could not access scanner part. The only thing I could figure out that was newly done was an automatic windows update. Only solution was to reinstall disk image I had made a week or so before. Well, it happened again yesterday. Tried to do a restore to earlier time (I have very bad luck with this in that most times the system just refuses to restore to earlier time), did all malware, virus scans, temp file remove etc. BTW-I could still access the scanner via WIA. Again, only solution seemed to be a reinstall from now month old disk image. I'll redo disk image backup more often, but there must be a reason for this. How would I go about discovering that reason?

We need your specs and please include your OS.
My first reaction is that you need a driver update but actually you haven't given us much to go on.

Don't understand why my reply from yesterday is gone. Here it is again:
Win 7 home premium 64 bit 4 gig ram service pacl 1
Dell inspiron 1764 laptop
Canon mp620b

Last time I checked, system told me I had most current drivers, but I will download and install the most current from Canon

Thanks for your help

I got a call about a problem an awful lot like this earlier this morning, it turned out to be a security software update and the Cannon needed to be re-allowed.
Have you checked that as well ?

The driver/software updates I just downloaded from Canon were newer than the items I had saved to my install disk, but I am not sure if the newly downloaded items were newer than those I had installed. Just to be sure, I reinstalled the most current drivers & software.
I use MS Security Essentials for my protection software.
I am not sure how I would go about making sure my printer is re-allowed after an update to security.
Thanks again for your help.

With MSE and the Windows firewall, this *shouldn't* be an issue.

If the "new" drivers don't fix this the next place to go is Cannon's on line tech support : Office equipment repair questions? Ask a technician ASAP

Like glc said, MSE "shouldn't be an issue" but any other software conflict is something they'll know about.
