Mail
When I recieve picture attachments in my hotmail account, they are sometimes embedded in the main mail reading page. If I attach a picture and send it to myself, it comes as a slide show or downloadable picture.
Could someone tell me what mail system embeds pictures in the main reading page enabling me to scroll down the pictures. The old hotmail used to be like that, but not now. In other words ---- is there a mail programme which does it, or are they embedded using some other way than just attaching? Thank you Jack |

Hotmail will let you "insert" Photo...from clipart into the body of the mail... I can't find a way to insert a pic from your own pc..
Outlook/Outlook Express and I'm sure most other email apps will let you Attach photos or "Insert" them into the body of the email message.

I have just installed outlook, and sent an e-mail with a picture attachment to my Windows live mail (hotmail) address, and the attached picture is not embedded in the mail reading pane.
I have also set up a google e-mail account, and sent to my hotmail, with the same result. How do people do it? Jack |

We use Apple Mail.
![]() Heh, I actually find this behaviour annoying, but that's the way Mail does it. I'm more used to the Outlook way, which is the opposite of what you want to do.

In Outlook - New Mail message - click into the BODY of the email message - then at the top click on INSERT->Picture

Was just gonna reply with that. Note that if you're using a version of Outlook older than 2007 you probably have to check the option to 'Use Word to edit E-mail messages'.

I am in England, but went to bed early as I had a late night previously..
I have tried outlook, but when I click "insert" in a new message, the illustrationns such as picture or clipart are greyed out, so I cannot click them. My outlook version is 2007. Jack Last edited by suzuki16; 10-22-2011 at 02:17 AM. |

If the blinking cursor is in for example the "Subject" field - it won't let you insert a picture there... Your mail message "Format" must also be HTML and NOT plain text to be able to insert pictures. |

Got it, I clicked in the body of the message, and the greyed out items became available.
I have inserted a jpg picture in the body of the e-mail ok, then sent it to my hotmail address. However, the picture does not appear. In the body of the e-mail the outline is there with a little Red cross at in the top left hand corner. Any idea's why? Many thanks for the help and advice. It's that annoying image filter that Hotmail and other webmail services have. Check under Options to see if there's a way to disable it permanently, otherwise you'll have to click on the 'Show Images' or something like that in every image-containing message you open.

It is driving me mad now. I can recieve e-mails with the picture embedded as usual in my hotmail, but not if I send from my outlook account.
The picture comes as a square box with the Red cross in the corner. If I forward the e-mail back to my outlook account, it comes ok and embedded. In hotmail I can see no setting which covers my problem, especially as even junk e-mails appear ok with embedded pictures. I am now considering deleting my ISP account from outlook, and configuring hotmail to run on it, then see what happens. If you hear a bang, I have shot myself. I have set up my hotmail account in outlook. I then embedded a picture and sent it to my other hotmail account.
The picture does not appear, although it was embedded in the body of the e-mail in outlook. There has to be some way of doing it, because I frequently get embedded pictures in both of my hotmail accounts. It cannot be a hotmail setting, because I recieve embedded picture e-mails which have been forwarded around the world. Unfortunately, I have no idea who originated them, so cannot ask. Jack |

I just sent my hotmail account an email with an embedded pic and it worked fine.
Google: Hotmail red x and you'll find plenty to read... |

Success
I just had to delay going out to try your suggestion.
I set up a google mail account a few days ago, but never investigated it properly. I just logged in to my Google mail, and took your advice to read the information available. I enabled the picture embedding, and sent a couple of e-mails to both of my hotmail accounts, and IT WORKS. The pictures were embedded ok. Many thanks for your help, and patience. Jack |
