Spybot: Search and Destroy
I recently upgraded my Spybot: Search and Destroy to version 2.0.6.0.
On doing so, on starting other programs a dialogue box would frequently appear on the desktop which said: "Search and Destroy to version 2.0.6.0. ... Live Protection". Also, I experienced difficulty in opening a Word file. I've since uninstalled the program. Is there any way that I can reinstall without encountering the difficulties described? Re Microsoft Security Essentials
Thanks for your advice.
I already have Windows Defender. Should I uninstall this prior to downloading Microsoft Security Essentials? |

I have Windows XP - Home Edition.
I also have Malware Bytes' Ant-Malware and AVG 2011 - Free. Should these be uninstalled? |

Install MSE. Uninstall AVG and keep Malwarebytes since it is not active all the time. This way you will not have a conflict between MSE and AVG.
Anti-malware software has a tendency of detecting other anti-malware software as malware and can create false positives.

You have to uninstall AVG before installing MSE.

Spybot was a good program on its day, but you'll like Malwarebytes just as well.

I would advise you use this avg uninstaller, last one on the page... You can really have issues if it is not completely removed.
Downloads Also, MSE covers Malware, Spyware etc. Will not hurt to keep Malwarebytes if you want piece of mind but I have found MSE to be just as effective. |

Good link, jdeb. As a tech, ever since AVG's snafu when they released their 2011 version, I've made it my policy to remove it from every machine I have to clean up viruses from. Not only must it be disabled for Combofix to run (try disabling the darn thing, it just won't let you), but it has become so bloated that it's like a free version of Norton. I kill it on sight and then install MSE when I'm done cleaning the machine up.

Cannot uninstall AVG 2011 - Free
I've tried unsuccessfully to uninstall AVG 2011 - Free.
I attempted this by two methods: 1. Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove > AVG 2011 (Remove) 2. Revo Uninstaller Can anyone suggest a solution? |
